Itheon Networks releases a new in-depth VoIP analysis module for their Portable Network Consultant (PNC)
Gain clarity when using VoIP
Welwyn Garden City, UK 8th August, 2007, — Itheon Networks, the Networked Application Performance Lifecycle™ specialists, announced today that it is releasing a new VoIP module to its Portable Network Consultant (PNC) which allows companies to look at the performance levels of the applications running over their network and diagnoses issues when performance becomes unacceptable.
This new VoIP feature will allow Itheon Network customers to see exactly what’s going on with VoIP, taking a deeper look into what happens when a VoIP call is made. At the same time also looking into popular messenger systems such as sip/yahoo, MSIM [Microsoft Instant Messenger] and giving information on its usage.
‘PNC has now become a layer 7 solution’ said Frank Puranik, Itheon Networks Product Director, ‘Users of VoIP can now understand what is going during the call, and as the phones send out a steady stream of data (i.e. the conversation) in each direction loss of data can happen, effecting poor quality and frustration from the users.’ Frank continues ‘Today PNC module for VoIP can tell what the call was like – measuring the quality through the use of the industry parameters. It’s essential that companies utilizing VoIP have access to understanding the performance of the calls being made, and this is what our customers want.’
The PNC will now give information about how VoIP behaves in a useful form and will not deliver reams of data such as ‘sniffers’ – rather it will deliver meaningful information that enables rapid determination of the causes of poor performance. Why is this important? Up until now, sniffers have extended their functionality to be able to capture and interpret VoIP calls, unfortunately this comes with many negatives such as potential ‘eaves-dropping’ - by recording the call itself sensitive conversations can be ‘eavesdropped’ by technical staff which can impeach the ‘eaves-dropping regulations’. Plus there are large amounts of data which has to be stored, taken up valuable space.
Features:
PNC Module for VoIP - allows a company to have more relevant information on not only the status of the call but also:
- Analyze calls in real time
- Gives phone numbers visibility – who is calling, who, telephone numbers etc.
- How long it took to set-up the call and if the call wasn’t set up properly then why?
- What happened during the call?
- A diagnostic tool for VoIP
- Report on long calls, time, amount of data sent, jitter, loss, top callers etc
- Track usage of the voice capability of instant messaging services such as yahoo and MSN
Itheon Networks’ module for the PNC only stores information about the call, not impinging on security as this data has nothing to do with the call content.
