INE Scenario Server
INE Scenario Server is a central repository product used to store, secure and serve Network Scenarios on behalf of a number of INE Windows (or INE Console or INE Enterprise) users. They can then download these predefined network scenarios from this server on demand.
Using INE Scenario Server takes the guess work out of trying to determine what settings you should be applying when creating a simulated network environment in which to test the performance of your application. It ensures that if you and your colleagues need to test in the same network scenario that you’re all using the same settings. It also ensures that when you come to retest an application you are applying exactly the same conditions as used in earlier tests. Therefore, when you spot any variation in application performance between one test and another you can be confident that it is not the result of running them in different network configurations.
Each stored network scenario used by INE for Windows will contain the following:
- Link Speed (asymmetric if required)
- Available Bandwidth (asymmetric if required)
- Delay (asymmetric if required)
- Loss (asymmetric if required)
- Limits on the adjustability of Bandwidth, Delay and Loss – to ensure that the scenario is only adjustable with valid limits
- Information on whether certain Bandwidth, Delay and Loss values are Good, Average or Bad for this scenario
- Automatic Changes to all the above over time (if required)
- Inclusions and exclusions – servers and applications to include/exclude
For INE Enterprise, all the above parameters are contained in network scenarios and many more only applicable to our Enterprise Emulator.
INE Scenario Servers (Private)
If you work in an organization where many people are developing and testing applications, you may wish to store your Network Scenarios centrally, so you can be sure of consistent testing. The INE Scenario server provides this ability.
This allows people in your organization, who understand your internal and external network links, to provide correct parameters for all the developers and testers using INE to test applications on a particular link. So if your company has New York and London Offices, for example, a scenario containing the parameters of this link could be created and served via the Scenario Server to all the developers and testers who might need it.
The INE Scenario Server can be installed on a separate Windows system (Desktop or Server) and provides a central point for scenarios to be stored and then downloaded for use by INE for Windows as well as INE Enterprise.
More than one INE Scenario Server can be installed in an organization if required.
INE Scenario Servers (Public)
It is also possible to download scenarios from public INE Scenario Servers e.g. one provided by Itheon Networks or other organizations. All that is required is a username and password provided by that organization to perform the download. (Communications to Public and Private Scenario servers are secured.)
